World Sight Day

Y3/4 pupils find out what it would be like if we could not see.

On Thursday 12th October, Dahl class held an assembly to celebrate World Sight Day. During the assembly, Dahl acted out the story of Jesus and the Blind Man and discussed ways that blind people can be supported, including having guide dogs, using canes and reading using braille.

The school were joined by the Grantham Lions as well as Ian Wells and his guide dog Wheeler, which the children particularly enjoyed! Simba also made an appearance during the assembly wearing his stylish glasses!

After the assembly, the children had the opportunity to ask Ian questions receive a visit from Wheeler in the classroom.  The children also learnt how to read braille and took part in a blindfolded obstacle course. Although the children found all of these activities fun, they also realised how hard it is to not be able to see and how they can use different senses to move around their environment.
