Newsletter: January 2012
Message from the New Headteacher
It is with enormous pleasure that I can introduce myself as the new
Headteacher. I am incredibly proud and excited to be entering this new
era for our school and to be entrusted with the leadership of the
education of the children here. I am really looking forward to working
with the whole school: staff, parents, governors, the church, the wider
community and, most importantly, the children. I know that we are going
to have great fun learning together, as we take our school to even
higher places.

Spring Term Curriculum News
Classes are well underway with their topics. From Spies to India to the Great Fire of London, there's lots going on and the children are very enthusiastic. If you haven't already, you should receive Curriculum Newsletters so you know what the children are learning about.
In addition to the class topics, we are introducing a whole school theme week for each term. Our first is 'Arts Week' beginning the 6th February and we will be inviting you in to join us at some point so you can help us celebrate the learning.
Our Little Diamonds
A big 'well done' to all those children who last Friday received Diamond Certificates for their fantastic attitude, exemplary behaviour and hard work. A group photograph was published on our website and we will do this every week for all our future Little Diamonds.
Class Assemblies
We have been making a few changes to our assemblies and the timings, which are mostly now at the end of the school day. The children are most excited because they are to take turns leading class assemblies on Thursdays at 2:40pm. Parents of the class involved are invited to come in and watch them. Here is a list of dates to help you plan ahead to join us:
- 19th January - 6J
- 26th January - 5/6B
- 2nd February - 5W
- Tuesday 7th February - 4J
- 23rd February - 4/3GC
- 1st March - 3W
- 8th March - 2W
- 15th March - 1/2M
- 22nd March - 1P
School Lunches
This week the Governors and I have had a really productive meeting with Lincolnshire County Council and Farm Kitchen regarding the use of the new school kitchen.
We hope to resolve this quickly but in the meantime, Farm Kitchen is providing healthy hot school lunches for all children who would like them. Lunches cost £2.35 per day.
Weekly menus are available on the school website alongside a link to the Farm Kitchen website to register online for payment and ordering. Orders need to be placed by midnight on Wednesdays for meals required the following week.
If you do not have internet access, collect a menu from Mrs Buck and she will explain alternative methods of payment. Details of how to claim free school meals are on our website and Mrs Buck can also help you with this.
Choral Outreach Programme
Children in years 4, 5 and 6 have the fantastic opportunity to take part in a singing club which will include a performance at Lincoln Cathedral.
The club will take place on Mondays after school and will be run by two musicians from the Cathedral. The performance will be on Monday 26th March. We look forward to taking part in such an exciting programme.
RAGTEX
The FSA are organising another RAGTEX collection to raise funds for school. Please send in unwanted old clothes, paired shoes, handbags, blankets, sheets, curtains and soft toys. All items need to be sent in strong black bin liners from Mon 23rd until Wed 25th January, when the bags will be collected.
Thank you to the FSA
Well done to the FSA and all those who supported on raising £1023 from the Christmas Fair. Following a meeting with Elise Deans and Marie Boddington, I am looking forward to working with the committee in all our future fundraising endeavours, some of which are included in our list of diary dates. If you're also interested in supporting, the next meeting is Tuesday 17th January at 8.00pm at The Recruiting Sergeant and I am sure Elise and Marie would love to see you.
Missing Nintendo DS - please help
On the last day of term, one child in 3W lost the Nintendo DS he brought to school that day. It is quite possible that it got mixed up in all the bits and pieces that were undoubtedly sent home.
The owner has very maturely accepted full responsibility for the loss of his toy but wonders if anyone has come across it over the Christmas holidays? If it has turned up and is handed into reception, Mrs Buck would be delighted to return it to its rightful owner.
Booking Holidays
Please remember when booking holidays that the May half term is not in its ‘usual’ place this year. The May holiday is from Friday 1st June – Monday 11th June to take account of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
