Information for parents of pupils starting in Reception.

We are very excited for our new reception children joining us this September.  Mrs Geraghty is busy organising the classroom ready to welcome them and is preparing some wonderful learning activities.  To ensure the children have a smooth and calm transition, unless parents have made an alternative arrangement with us, our start dates are as follows:

  • Tuesday 4th September for pupils with birthdays between 1st Sept and 31st December
  • Thursday 6th September for pupils with birthdays between 1st January and 31st May
  • Friday 7th September for pupils with birthdays between 1st June and 31st August

We understand parents and children may be a little anxious on the first day at school in Reception so parents are very welcome to stay with their child in class until 9:30am; by that time we are sure most children will be busy with activities. Parents may also like to take a memento ‘first day of school’ photo of their child in the classroom and that will be fine too, as long as their photo does not include other pupils. Please note the school gates will open at 8:30am and the classroom will open at 8:40am for registration at 8:50am.

Parents are reminded to complete your On Entry Pupil Assessment form and bring it with them on the first day. It is really important to make sure that we have complete paperwork, including emergency contact details and sight of birth certificates for all pupils (all forms and info can be accessed via this link). We ask parents to check with Mrs Nicholson our administrator on their child’s first day to make sure we do not have anything outstanding.

Parents should receive some important emails shortly. Firstly, they will be asked to accept their Tapestry Learning Journal account, which is their child’s online learning journey for the Reception year so they can see how he or she is getting on and make contributions.

Parents will also receive an invite from ClassDojo to join our school’s online learning community. Throughout school we use ClassDojo to acknowledge and reward pupils for good learning behaviours (use of their learning muscles) and the children love collecting Dojo points. Most parents are connected so that they can see when their child receives points but mostly because we also use ClassDojo to share ‘stories’ about what is happening in class and through school. We share lots of photos, including of our weekly Diamond Award winners. If parents choose to accept the invite, they can access Dojo via a web browser or by downloading an app for their phone or tablet – it is very easy to use. We look forward to seeing you!
