Takeover Day 2017

Pupils take over jobs in the school for the day to learn about responsibility.

Takeover Day is an opportunity for the children to learn more about the world of work and responsibility. At the end of November, all pupils applied for a job in school. On Friday 6th January, the successful applicants 'shadowed' the person whose job they applied for.

There were four busy headteachers making sure everything ran smooothly, checking learning in lessons, showing visitors around and they even led Celebration Assembly.

We had several children working in the kitchen and learning all about preparing and cooking our school meals. From making shortbread, preparing the salad bar and fruit kebabs to serving fish and chips, they had a fantastic time - they even sneaked a bit of chocolate in for a treat! They learned how to work safely and hygenically too.

Lots of children enjoyed being teachers and teaching assistants, although some found it much harder work than they thoight it would be!  We were really impressed with their confidence and organisation. Some had been planning what they were going to do with staff all week.

Our office assistants enjoyed preparing display copies of the menu, answering phones, passing on messages and dealing with general day to day admin. We even had some shadow caretakers and a Midday Controller making sure lunchtime ran smoothly.

To ensure that everyone was included and got a taste of responsibility, in the afternoon, all pupils had the opportunity to teach each other something they are really good at. They planned an activity to teach it to other pupils (and teachers). The children loved this and we were taught a whole range of activities from how to tie shoelaces, play a note on the clarinet, singing, Karate and how to speak Polish.

Overall, it wass a fantastic day for everyone!
