Science & Environment
Our pupils are naturally inquisitive and curious about the world around them. Our science curriculum aims to encourage and develop these skills. Through lots of first-hand experience, pupils gain knowledge and understanding in all three elements of science. Science is a core subject and an essential part of our pupils' learning.
On the whole, Science is taught seperately to our topics unless strong links can be made and our pupils have science lessons at least once every week. We subscribe to the Collins Snap Science scheme of work to help us plan, resource and assess science. This scheme clearly maps the progression of science throughout the school ensuring all elements of the national curriculum are covered. It demonstrates how to support lower attainers as well as challenging those who quickly master the objectives. It provides many opportunities to develop and apply investigative skills and in every topic covered, pupils will complete a full investigation where they can apply their new knowledge and use their maths and literacy skills to present their findings.
Every March, the whole school comes together for Science and Engineering Week to celebrate our love of the subject through a wide array of activities.
